What is this paper, and what is the deadline?
Paste the words of a medical bill, an insurer's statement, a denial, a collection letter, or a message asking for money. You get what it looks like, the dates and amounts, any warning signs, and the deadlines the rules set, with sources.
Ask for the records behind a bill
You have a right to a copy of your medical and billing records. This fills a short written request that names the rule; you print it, sign it and hand or mail it to the records office yourself.
Source: 45 CFR 164.524 (access, 30 days, one extension, form and format, sending to a named person, cost-based fee) · 45 CFR 164.502(g)(4) (a personal representative of someone who died). Names and dates of birth are written by hand on the printout; nothing you type leaves this tab.
Next: after a death: the dates that matter · does a health expense qualify for HSA or FSA money? · keep the paper in your on-device ComfortCard folder · make a proof slip for the paper.
If someone is in danger right now, call 911. If you are in crisis, call or text 988.
